Alloway Auld Kirk

Unity - PCVR
Alloway Auld Kirk is a project that's very close to my heart - it artfully incorporates the wild and fantastical elements from Robert Burns' poem "Tam O'Shanter" while remaining firmly rooted in historical authenticity.

The project is a detailed recreation of the Alloway Kirk, as depicted in Burns' poem, at three distinct points in time. The first scene faithfully portrays the kirk as it exists in modern times - this was created using a 3D scan of the area as a guide, ensuring the accurate layout and proportions of each structural element.

The second scene transports users back to the 18th century, during Burns' lifetime, presenting the Kirk with its rafters intact, and completed with authentic objects from that era, capturing the essence of the historical period.

The third scene brings to life the vivid imagery of the poem "Tam O'Shanter," immersing users in a wild storm, illuminated by distant flashes of thunder, and witnessing the Kirk seemingly engulfed in flames.

A notable aspect of this project involved creating bespoke VFX for the rain, thunder, fog, and wind. This presented an enjoyable challenge for me as I expanded my skillset, a pursuit which I always find deeply fulfilling.

The final output proved to be a resounding success, garnering significant acclaim through numerous global online events conducted over the subsequent year. These events were exceptionally well-received, resonating with a broad audience and further enhancing the project's impact and reputation.
